Video for software and tech companies, built on customers

Live-action customer stories, product demos and launch spots that make software feel human, shot in the field and cut for every channel.

Colt Concepts is a SaaS video production company making live-action video for software and tech companies: customer stories, product demos and launch spots, built around the real people who use your product. For GoDaddy, we produced six customer story films shot at customers' own businesses, plus 18 cutdowns for paid and social. Production is priced starting at $1,500.

Customer stories that make a platform feel personal

Customer stories make software feel personal because the story is never really the product. It's the person who used it to build something.

That was the thinking behind our work for GoDaddy. GoDaddy's product is infrastructure: domains, hosting, tooling. Platform marketing tends to turn customers into personas, so the brief was to keep real names, real storefronts and real messiness in the frame, while still delivering something usable across paid and web.

We pre-interviewed each owner by phone so the on-camera conversation could skip the warm-up, then shot each business in a half-day block with a two-person crew to keep things relaxed. From every interview we cut a web hero, a paid cutdown and a vertical version. The deliverables:

  • 6 customer story films
  • 18 derivative cutdowns for paid and social
  • Photography from each location
  • Transcript-based copy blocks for landing pages

According to the case study, the story pages held attention longer than the previous product-explainer videos, and owners shared their own films. Our testimonial video page covers how we run customer story shoots.

Live action vs animation: when does each fit?

Animation fits when you need to explain something abstract, like data flowing through a system or a feature that lives inside the interface. Live action fits when you need to build trust, because a real customer on camera is harder to doubt than an illustration.

Many software companies default to animated explainers because they're easy to update and don't need a shoot. They're useful, but they all start to look alike, and they can't show proof. A live-action customer story answers the question every buyer has: does this work for someone like me?

In practice, most tech companies need both. Use animation or screen recordings to show how the product works, and live action to show who it works for. We focus on the live-action side, and we cut product screen footage into our edits where the story needs it.

What we make for software and tech companies

We make the live-action video a tech company needs across the funnel:

  • Customer stories. Field-produced films of real customers explaining what changed. See testimonial video.
  • Product demos. Clear, short walkthroughs that pair the interface with the people using it.
  • Launch spots. Punchy videos for a new product or feature. See commercial production.
  • Recruiting video. Culture and team films that help you hire. See corporate video.
  • Event content. Conference and launch-event coverage, cut fast for social.
  • Social cutdowns. Vertical versions of everything above. See social video.

Franchise and multi-location tech

Tech companies with many locations or franchisees need a web structure that scales, not just video. That's web and SEO work, and we do it in-house.

For Techy, we built a location page framework that franchisees could use without creating duplicate content. Every location page had required unique sections: local services, local proof, local staff and local FAQs. A guided intake made writing local content take minutes, and schema, internal linking and listing hygiene were standardized across the network. According to the case study, location pages began ranking individually instead of competing with each other.

If your customer stories need a home, our web team builds the pages they live on.

How a customer story shoot runs

A customer story shoot runs in four steps, and the planning is what keeps the day short for your customer.

  1. Pick the customers. We help you choose stories that represent your best buyers, not just your biggest logos.
  2. Pre-interview. A short call with each customer finds the story before the camera arrives.
  3. Shoot. A small crew films the interview and the customer's real environment, usually in a half-day block.
  4. Edit and cut down. The main film first, then the cutdowns, vertical versions and stills, all planned from the start.
