Training video production people actually finish

Onboarding, how-to and product training scripted with your experts, filmed in your space and cut into short modules your team can finish.

Colt Concepts handles training video production, built so people actually finish it. Each video teaches a single task, features your real people and is filmed where the work happens. We script with your experts, shoot on-site and cut everything into short modules with captions.

01 Why: Why does most training video get skipped, and how do we fix it?

Most training video gets skipped because it tries to cover too much, in a setting that doesn't look like work. An hour-long recording of a slide deck asks people to sit through it and remember it. They do neither.

We fix it with three rules.

  • One task per module. Each video answers one question, like how to open the register or how to log a return.
  • Real people. Your experienced team members explain the work the way they'd show a new hire.
  • Real place. We film at the actual counter, line or job site, so what people see matches what they'll do.

02 Process: How does training video production work?

The process runs in five steps: expert interviews, script, on-site shoot, modular edit and delivery.

  1. Expert interviews. We talk to the people who do the job best and capture how they actually do it.
  2. Script. We turn that into a plain-language script, one module per task, and you approve it. Our guide on how to write a video script shows the approach.
  3. On-site shoot. One crew films every module in a planned shoot day, with interview lighting and clean location audio.
  4. Modular edit. Each task becomes its own short video, with on-screen steps where they help.
  5. Captions and delivery. Every module is captioned and delivered as a finished MP4, plus short cutdowns where they help. Our editing workflow is how the cut gets made.

03 People: Who from your team do we need on shoot day?

We need three people on shoot day: someone who does the task best, someone who can approve the content and someone who can open doors. The expert explains and demonstrates each step. The approver confirms on set that the process shown is the right one, so nothing has to be reshot. The site contact handles access, equipment and keeping the work area ready to film. Sometimes one person covers two of these roles.

04 Length: How long should a training video be?

A training video should be long enough to teach one task and no longer. If it covers more than one task, split it. A long course works better as a series of short modules: people finish one, use what they learned and come back for the next. It also means you update a single module when a process changes, not the whole course. When a step changes, we reshoot or re-edit only the module that covers it, and the rest of your library stays as it is.

05 Place: Can you film in our space?

Yes. We film on-site at your office, plant or job site, or at our studio. On-site is usually the better choice for training, because people learn faster when the video shows the place they work. The studio works for leadership messages and anything that needs a clean, controlled setting.

06 Price: What does training video cost?

A half-day shoot starts at $1,500, and a full day starts at $3,000. Scripting and editing are quoted with the shoot once we know how many modules you need. Planning several modules for one shoot day keeps the cost per module down. You'll see the full scope before anything is booked.

07 Result: Who's done this kind of work with us?

The same crew made a seven-part, on-location series for Dream Vacations. We shot all 7 long-form videos at real franchise locations, capturing day-to-day operations with no staged sales footage. It was a franchise video tour rather than a training course, but it took the same planning, multi-video structure and on-location shooting. For 3Natives, we delivered 5 videos: a founder film and four franchisee testimonials. Every person on camera was a real operator, not an actor. That's the skill training video depends on: getting experts to explain their work clearly on camera.
